Allah
Creator of all things and Master of the Universe, Allah is the supreme deity of Islam and Muslims. But many questions arise about Him: where does the name Allah come from? Was it already in use among the Arabs before Islam? Has monotheism existed at all times, as the Muslim tradition affirms, or is it a more recent development in history? Furthermore, Muslim theologians have long debated, sometimes violently, about His attributes: Does Allah have a body? A face, hands? Is He the one who determines human destiny and directs our actions, or has He left free will to man? In this section, we will address these theological questions by highlighting the ambiguities and hesitations of the ulema.
