eschatology

The Quran, like later Muslim tradition, places significant importance on eschatology, that is, everything related to end-of-world events (the end of the world, resurrection, the Last Judgment, paradise, hell...). Beliefs in an existence beyond this world are shared with many other religions, which raises numerous questions: where do the concepts of resurrection, paradise, or hell originate? What are the origins of the much-feared punishments of the grave? In this section, we will trace the genealogy of these beliefs, from their origins to the Quran. Furthermore, we will see that the Quranic representations of the afterlife show important similarities with Talmudic and Syriac writings.
